As a Staff Threat Researcher: Intelligence Reporting at Material Security, you will research, define, and evangelize cloud workspace security. The workspace isn’t just email and applications, it is critical infrastructure. It’s the first thing that is given to new employees when they join a company and the last thing that is taken away when they leave. A huge amount of critical intelligence, analysis, data, and IP are in a company's workspace. And yet the tools to protect the workspace are limited and isolated, which leaves a company exposed to a multitude of threats. At Material Security we are dedicated to securing the workspace: e-mail, drive, applications, identity. This role will research the different aspects of workspace security. Where vulnerabilities lie, what attacks are emerging, and how those attacks endanger a company's success.
Based on this research this individual will develop content to inform the world about the critical importance of securing the workspace and inform Material about emerging threats so we can further secure the workspace. Not only will this individual be responsible for representing what Material does to the world, they will also be responsible for pushing engineering, data, and product to address new threats to the workspace and help define workspace security.
Responsibilities
Engage in extensive primary and secondary research into workspace security using data from Material and secondary sources
Do data analysis to support this research
Ensure the accuracy of the research
Inform product and engineering of any new threats or vulnerabilities that are discovered through research and work with them to ensure product decisions adequately address these threats and vulnerabilities.
Work directly with Marketing to ensure that the content is appropriately distributed and develop responses for inquiries and questions from potential customers and media.
Assist in producing digital content, potentially including: public facing web articles and blogs, white papers, video scripts, podcasts and social media posts on cloud office security including critical vulnerabilities in the workspace, emerging threats to the workspace, and the risks that companies face when not securing the workspace.
Create, edit, and copy edit digital content
What We're Looking For

The candidate must have a strong track record of successfully doing that in the Threat Research space.
Content Creation Experience: This candidate has experience across multiple content mediums (blogs, social media, podcast, video) and is comfortable communicating their findings both in writing and in person. Experience in visualizing findings in an engaging way is desired.
Analytical Ability: This role will require the individual to support their arguments with numbers so the candidate must have experience pulling, transforming and analyzing data. A successful candidate needs to be self sufficient in SQL and relevant data analysis tools (e.g., iphython notebooks)
Security Domain Expertise: A successful candidate should be intimately familiar with modern adversary behavior and techniques and understand how to leverage data sources to identify them.
Collaboration & Communication: We take pride in being a transparent security team that works hard to find ways to say "yes" and enables Material to grow quickly and securely. As a Threat Researcher, you'll be working across the company from Marketing and Sales, to Product, Engineering, and Data. This will require a collaborative spirit and great communication skills.
Ownership and Independence: We love employees who deeply care about the impact of their work and find satisfaction in a job well done. This individual will explore new areas in their research so they must be able to define their work and fit it into the strategic goals of Material.
Breadth & Growth: Cloud office security is critical and not well understood. This candidate must be passionate about learning and communicating about new threats and new vulnerabilities to make the world a more secure place.
