Position: Music Expert
Type: Contract
Compensation: $67–$75/hour
Location: Remote
Commitment: 20 hours/week

Role Responsibilities

  • Author, review, and annotate technical tasks to evaluate AI model performance on music and musicology problems.
  • Produce original problem sets grounded in scores, harmonic analyses, and spectrograms.
  • Write reference solutions and apply structured quality checks.
  • Provide clear, structured feedback to improve AI training data quality and downstream performance.
  • Work independently and asynchronously with a flexible schedule to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • DMA or PhD in Music or Musicology, or MM with 3+ years teaching, performance, or research experience, or BM or BA in Music with 5+ years teaching, performance, or composition experience.
  • Working fluency in at least two of: theory, history/musicology, performance practice, composition, ethnomusicology.
  • Comfortable reading and interpreting scores, harmonic analyses, and spectrograms.
  • Clear technical writing; able to articulate reasoning step-by-step in written form.
