Senior Project Finance SpecialistStatus: Full-time, exempt Location: Remote
Why This Role ExistsClinical trials are operationally complex and financially intricate. At Profound Research, we believe financial precision is not back-office work – it’s core to delivering high-quality research and accelerating access to new therapies. The Senior Project Finance Specialist owns the financial health of assigned clinical trials from startup through closeout. This role ensures budgets are built accurately, revenue is recognized appropriately, providers are paid correctly, and sponsors are invoiced on time – all while aligning closely with site operations. You’ll serve as both operator and advisor: deeply fluent in Clinical Trial Management Software (CTMS) and revenue workflows, proactive in identifying risk or leakage, and a trusted partner to clinical teams. As a senior member of the function, you’ll also mentor others, improve processes, and help strengthen the financial infrastructure of a growing research network. This is a high-accountability role for someone who thrives at the intersection of finance, systems, and clinical operations. What You’ll DoFinancial Management & Complianceo Review and interpret clinical protocol budgets and contracts o Create and maintain study profiles and monitor contract progress for clinical trial agreements o Process invoicing, track collections, and complete cash application for clinical research studies o Monitor and track all financial activity associated with assigned trials o Perform out-of-period revenue analysis and accounts receivable aging assessments o Manage and oversee all trial associated vendor fees
CTMS Oversighto Oversee and track CTMS management across assigned trials, including visit windows, scheduling parameters, visit times, and personnel requirements o Provide system support to the site staff for the Clinical Trial Management Software (CTMS) o Serve as the subject matter expert for CTMS and revenue issue resolution
Provider & Patient Paymentso Oversee the determination and tracking of provider payments associated with clinical procedures and study startup o Oversee the tracking of trial-associated patient stipends and resolve stipend issues as they arise
Team Leadership & Operationso Collaborate with the clinical team to align financial processes with site operations and share research finance best practices o Oversee the onboarding of new staff and provide ongoing technical guidance and support o Perform and oversee department audits and special projects as assigned
RequirementsEssential Qualificationso 3+ years managing clinical trials in a Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS) o Working knowledge of clinical research budgets and financial principles o Familiarity across study finance build, CTMS site support, invoicing, cash application, and AR follow-up o Experience in clinical systems, tools, and metrics o Knowledge of CTMS and invoicing processes
Preferred Qualificationso 5+ years of research experience in a Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS) o Customer-facing or stakeholder communication experience
