What will the Manager, Analytics and Business Intelligence do?
Coterie is seeking a Manager of Analytics and BI to lead and evolve our internal reporting ecosystem while remaining deeply hands-on. This is a player-coach role for someone who enjoys building analytics solutions themselves, while mentoring a small, high-impact BI team.
You will own our Power BI environment end-to-end, guide the design of scalable semantic and reporting layers, and ensure analytics outputs are trusted, performant and decision-ready. Partnering closely with Data Engineering and business stakeholders, you will translate complex insurance data into actionable insights that drive growth and operational excellence.
- Lead and continuously improve Coterie’s BI and reporting architecture, including semantic models, dashboards, performance optimization and governance standards.
- Contribute directly to data transformation and modeling in Gold and Platinum Medallion layers.
- Develop, design and maintain high-impact dashboards, reports, and datasets – staying hands-on as an individual contributor.
- Establish and evolve analytics best practices around data modeling, metric definition, documentation, security and self-service enablement.
- Manage and mentor a small BI team, providing technical guidance and coaching.
- Coordinate and drive both near-term and longer-term BI initiatives.
- Partner with subject matter experts across divisions, including Insurance, Growth and Operations, to translate business needs into scalable analytics solutions and visualizations.
- Support complex ad-hoc analysis and data investigation as needed.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Analytics, Mathematics, Data Science, Actuarial Science, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Advanced experience with Power BI, including data modeling, DAX, security and performance tuning.
- Strong SQL proficiency, with practice writing complex queries.
- Experience in managing or coaching data professionals.
- Strong understanding of data models, dimensional modeling concepts and table joins.
- High attention to detail, strong ownership mindset and comfort operating autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to think both strategically and tactically, balancing long-term architecture with immediate business needs.
- Experience working with insurance-related data, such as loss experience, premium production, underwriting or operational metrics.
What will make you stand out:
- Experience with Databricks or modern cloud analytics platforms.
- Familiarity with Python or R for analytics or data exploration.
- Intimate knowledge of Property & Casualty insurance, especially commercial lines.
