THIS IS AN UNPAID ROLERole Title: English / Thai TranslatorRole Nature: Voluntary (unpaid)Location: Home-basedThe Blockchain &amp; Climate Institute (BCI) is an international volunteers-led think tank supporting and advocating the application of blockchain technology in the global fight against climate change. We are looking for professional VOLUNTEERS Translators/Interpreters with excellent oral and writing skills who can have proficiency in both English and Thai. Translators/Interpreters may agree to participate in the translation work at certain events upon request, dependent on their availability. BCI translators need to be able to translate both ways, e.g. English to Thai and Thai to English. Your responsibilities (dependent on your work stream) will include the following:<ul> <li>Reporting to the Translation Manager and providing written translation and live interpretation during meetings with foreign stakeholders;</li> <li>Translating minutes, reports, and formal letters;</li> <li>Answering language-related queries and assisting our developing country service users who require language support;</li> <li>Cooperating with other volunteers on ad hoc projects.</li> </ul>RequirementsEducation &amp; Training<ul> <li>A relevant degree or training in Languages or Communications is preferred.</li> <li>Excellent written and spoken English.</li> </ul>Relevant Experience<ul> <li>2+ years experience as a Translator/Interpreter;</li> <li>Experience in providing virtual interpretation on appropriate platforms;</li> <li>Experience in working independently and with teams to meet deadlines in a timely manner.</li> </ul>Skills &amp; Abilities<ul> <li>C1 or higher proficiency in English and Thai.</li> <li>Experience translating from Thai into English and vice versa</li> <li>Strong in written communication, editing, and proofreading</li> <li>Close attention to details; </li> <li>Excellent organizational skills.</li> </ul>General &amp; Specialist Knowledge<ul> <li>Advanced Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook;</li> <li>Basic knowledge of Trello and Microsoft Teams;</li> <li>Some knowledge of topics central to the BCI such as climate change, climate finance, and blockchain technology preferred.</li> </ul>BenefitsThis is a significant first step to gaining experience for an industry change into climate action and/or emerging tech. To recruit the most suitable, talented, or potential new members out of the volume of applications received, it is the BCI’s policy to also consider inexperienced candidates to fill our voluntary unpaid roles as long as they can demonstrate the skills required in the written assessment. In the selection process, most candidates will be invited to complete the following assessment.Section A: Verbal and Numerical Reasoning (20 multiple-choice questions)Section B: Situation Judgement Test (20 multiple-choice questions)Section C: In-Tray Exercise (An open-ended assessment relevant to the duties of the role)Candidates who pass all three sections will be invited to attend a phone screening, first interview, and final interview online.
