Principal Agentic Engineer (Back-end) – Remote Job at Apply Digital | Find My Remote

Senior technical leader responsible for designing, building, and scaling robust backend systems for AI-powered products, with architectural judgment, AI fluency, and client-facing leadership.

Responsibilities

Design and develop scalable, secure backend systems using Python and cloud-native patterns.
Apply spec-driven development practices for clarity and predictable delivery.
Translate backlog from Product/UX into detailed spec-driven requirements for agents.
Coordinate teams of coding agents to deliver engineering work.
Design and implement RESTful APIs for frontend, mobile, and third-party integrations.
Architect AI-powered backends: vector stores, RAG, LLMs, and AI agents to boost velocity.
Develop and maintain GCP-based systems, including Vertex AI and Gen AI APIs.
Leverage Agent Development Kits to design and implement intelligent agent-based systems.
Ensure observable, reliable, and debuggable production systems.
Collaborate to design well-architected, maintainable solutions aligned with business goals.
Mentor engineers to foster technical excellence and continuous learning.
Partner with PMs and cross-functional teams to manage delivery risks and timelines.
Explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

Strong experience with Python 3 for backend development.
Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
Proven experience with spec-driven development.
Hands-on experience using AI coding agents (e.g., Copilot, Claude Code).
Strong prompt engineering skills.
Experience working with LLMs (Gemini, Claude, GPT-4/5).
Experience implementing vector stores and RAG architectures.
Experience with Agent Development Kits (Google ADK).
Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Hands-on experience with Vertex AI and Google Gen AI APIs.

Nice to Have

Experience with BMAD Method or similar spec-driven frameworks.
Familiarity with layered and distributed architectures.
Terraform experience.
Experience with additional backend languages.
Experience with gRPC or other communication patterns.
