Own and maintain scalable Python/Django backend services using Kafka for millions of users; CET±2h alignment with Sofia team.
Responsibilities
- Own backend services from design to deployment and ongoing maintenance
- Design and maintain scalable Python/Django distributed backends
- Architect distributed systems for millions of users with low latency
- Collaborate with product, frontend, and DevOps to ship features on tight timelines
- Lead and mentor juniors via code reviews and architecture discussions
- Own APIs, data pipelines, Kafka, and caching components
- Optimize throughput, latency, fault tolerance, and resilience under load
- Implement unit, integration, and performance tests
- Drive improvement of development processes and observability
- Participate in on-call rotations and support production issues
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional Python backend development
- Solid Django experience with asyncio
- Production experience with Apache Kafka
- Experience with distributed systems (microservices)
- Docker containerization; Kubernetes experience a plus
- Cloud provider experience (AWS preferred)
- PostgreSQL experience; NoSQL a plus
- CI/CD pipelines and test automation
- Monitoring/logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana)
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations
Nice to Have
- Exposure to event sourcing or CQRS
- Familiarity with React frontend
- Knowledge of big data tools (Flink, NiFi)
- Terraform / IaC tooling experience
- Docker/Kubernetes containerization/orchestration
- Experience in sports/betting industries
