Own, design, and maintain scalable Python/Django backend services serving millions of users using Kafka. Requires CET±2 real-time collaboration with the Sofia team.

Responsibilities

Own backend services from design through deployment and maintenance.
Design and maintain scalable, high-performance distributed backends with Python and Django.
Architect distributed systems to support millions of users with low latency.
Collaborate with product, frontend, and DevOps to ship features on tight timelines.
Lead and mentor junior engineers via code reviews and architecture discussions.
Own APIs, data pipelines, Kafka, and caching infrastructure.
Optimize systems for throughput, latency, resilience under heavy load.
Implement robust testing: unit, integration, and performance tests.
Improve development processes and system observability (monitoring, logging).
Participate in on-call rotations and production issue support.

Requirements

5+ years of professional Python backend development.
Solid Django experience with asyncio.
Production experience with Apache Kafka.
Experience with distributed systems (microservices).
Docker containers; Kubernetes experience is a plus.
Familiarity with AWS or other cloud providers.
PostgreSQL expertise; NoSQL is a plus.
CI/CD pipelines and test automation experience.
Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana).
Experience supporting 1M+ users is a strong plus.

Nice to Have

Exposure to event sourcing or CQRS patterns.
Familiarity with React frontend.
Knowledge of big data tools (Flink, NiFi).
Terraform or infrastructure as code experience.
Practical knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience in sports or betting industries.
