Own and evolve scalable Python backends for millions of users using Django and Kafka; drive reliability, deployment, and cross-team collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of backend services from design through deployment and maintenance.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable distributed backends with Python and Django.
- Architect distributed systems to support millions of users with low latency.
- Collaborate with product, frontend, and DevOps teams to ship features on tight timelines.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers through code reviews and architecture discussions.
- Own APIs, data pipelines, Kafka, and caching infrastructure.
- Optimize throughput, latency, and fault tolerance under heavy load.
- Implement unit, integration, and performance tests.
- Improve development processes and system observability (monitoring, logging).
- Participate in on-call rotations and production support.
Requirements
- 5+ years of Python backend development.
- Solid Django experience with asyncio.
- Production experience with Apache Kafka.
- Distributed systems/microservices experience.
- Docker deployment experience; Kubernetes a plus.
- Cloud provider familiarity (AWS preferred).
- PostgreSQL proficiency; NoSQL is a plus.
- CI/CD and test automation experience.
- Monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana).
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations.
Nice to Have
- Event sourcing or CQRS patterns experience.
- React frontend familiarity.
- Big data tools (Flink, NiFi).
- Terraform or Infrastructure as Code experience.
- Practical containerization and orchestration knowledge.
- Experience in sports/betting industries.
