Contract role to own, design, and maintain scalable Python/Django backend services (Kafka) for millions of users, delivering low-latency, high-availability systems.

Responsibilities

Own backend services from design through deployment and maintenance.
Design, develop, and maintain scalable distributed backends using Python and Django.
Architect distributed systems for millions of users with low latency and high availability.
Collaborate with product, frontend, and DevOps teams to ship features on aggressive timelines.
Lead and mentor junior engineers through code reviews and architecture discussions.
Own APIs, data pipelines, message brokers (Kafka), and caching.
Optimize throughput, latency, fault tolerance, and resilience under heavy load.
Implement unit, integration, and performance tests.
Improve development processes and system observability (monitoring, logging).
Participate in on-call rotations and support production issues.

Requirements

5+ years of professional Python backend development with ownership.
Solid Django experience with asyncio.
Production experience with Apache Kafka.
Strong experience with distributed systems/microservices.
Experience with Docker; Kubernetes is a plus.
AWS or other cloud provider familiarity (AWS preferred).
Proficient with PostgreSQL; NoSQL is a plus.
Experience with CI/CD and test automation.
Knowledge of monitoring/logging tools like Prometheus, Grafana.
Willingness to participate in on-call rotations.

Nice to Have

Exposure to event sourcing or CQRS patterns.
React frontend familiarity.
Knowledge of big data tools (Flink, NiFi).
Terraform/infrastructure-as-code experience.
Docker and Kubernetes practical experience.
Experience in sports/betting industries.
