Own, design, and maintain scalable Python/Django backend services serving millions of users, with Kafka, in CET ±2 hours.
Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of backend services from design through deployment and maintenance.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable distributed backends with Python and Django.
- Architect systems to support millions of users with low latency and high availability.
- Collaborate with product, frontend, and DevOps to ship features on tight timelines.
- Lead and mentor engineers through code reviews and architecture discussions.
- Own APIs, data pipelines, Kafka, and caching infrastructure.
- Optimize for throughput, latency, fault tolerance, and resilience under load.
- Implement unit, integration, and performance tests.
- Improve development processes and system observability (monitoring, logging).
- Participate in on-call rotations and production issue support.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional Python backend development experience.
- Solid Django experience with asyncio-based programming.
- Production experience with Apache Kafka.
- Strong experience with distributed systems and microservices.
- Docker containerization; Kubernetes experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with any cloud provider (AWS preferred).
- Proficient with SQL databases, especially PostgreSQL; NoSQL is a plus.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and test automation.
- Knowledge of monitoring/logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana).
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to event sourcing or CQRS patterns
- Familiarity with React frontend tech
- Knowledge of big data tools (Flink, NiFi)
- Terraform or similar IaC tooling experience
- Docker and Kubernetes practical experience
- Experience in sports or betting industries
