Own design, build, and maintain scalable Python backends (Django, Kafka) serving millions of users with low latency. CET ±2h alignment required.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of backend services from design to deployment and improvement
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable distributed backends using Python and Django
- Architect distributed systems to support millions of users with low latency and high availability
- Collaborate with product, frontend, and DevOps to ship features on aggressive timelines
- Lead and mentor junior engineers through code reviews and architecture discussions
- Own APIs, data pipelines, message brokers (Kafka), and caching
- Optimize systems for throughput, latency, fault tolerance under heavy load
- Implement unit, integration, and performance tests
- Drive observability through monitoring and logging and process improvements
- Participate in on-call rotations and production support as needed
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional Python backend development
- Solid Django experience with async programming
- Production experience with Apache Kafka
- Experience with distributed systems (microservices)
- Docker experience; Kubernetes a plus
- Familiarity with cloud providers (AWS preferred)
- Proficiency with PostgreSQL; NoSQL a plus
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and test automation
- Knowledge of monitoring/logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana)
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations
Nice to Have
- Event sourcing or CQRS exposure
- Frontend knowledge (React)
- Big data tools like Flink or NiFi
- Terraform / infrastructure as code
- Practical containerization/orchestration tools (Docker/Kubernetes)
- Experience in sports/betting industries
