Own the design, build, and maintenance of scalable backend services for a high-traffic, free-to-play sports gaming platform. Focus on low-latency, reliable systems using Python, Django, and Kafka.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of backend services from design to deployment and maintenance
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable Python/Django backend services
  • Architect distributed systems for millions of users with low latency
  • Collaborate with product, frontend, and DevOps to ship features on timelines
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers via code reviews and architectural discussions
  • Own APIs, data pipelines, Kafka, and caching infrastructure
  • Optimize throughput, latency, and resilience under heavy load
  • Implement unit, integration, and performance tests
  • Improve development processes and system observability (monitoring/logging)
  • Participate in on-call rotations and production support

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional Python backend development
  • Django experience with asyncio
  • Production experience with Apache Kafka
  • Distributed systems experience (microservices)
  • Docker for containerized apps; Kubernetes experience a plus
  • Cloud experience (AWS preferred)
  • PostgreSQL proficiency; NoSQL a plus
  • CI/CD and test automation experience
  • Monitoring/logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Willingness for on-call rotations

Nice to Have

  • Event sourcing or CQRS exposure
  • Frontend tech exposure (React)
  • Big data tools (Flink, NiFi)
  • IaC tools like Terraform
  • Practical knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience in sports/betting industries
