Position Overview:

The Clinical Pathologist / Medical Examiner shall provide professional clinical pathology and forensic pathology consultation services in support of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG), Behavioral Analysis Units (BAUs). The role supports federal, state, local, and international law enforcement agencies by delivering expert forensic pathology analysis related to child and adult death investigations, including suspicious deaths, child homicides, and unexplained fatalities. Services are delivered through on-site case consultations, telephone conferences, written reports, oral presentations, and expert testimony, as requested by the FBI.

  • Expert knowledge of child and adult death investigations, including SIDS, SUIDS, and pediatric fatalities
  • Advanced analytical and forensic pathology skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site case consultations and remote consultations with FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit personnel.
  • Review and assess forensic pathology materials for completeness, validity, and investigative relevance.
  • Provide expert interpretation of forensic pathology findings related to child and adult death investigations.
  • Assist FBI personnel in understanding medical and forensic evidence in active investigations..
  • Recommend additional investigative techniques or forensic approaches when appropriate.
  • Prepare written reports and oral briefings summarizing findings and expert opinions.
  • Provide expert testimony in judicial proceedings, when requested.
  • Develop and deliver training presentations or instructional materials for FBI personnel.
  • Maintain professional documentation and strict confidentiality of all case-related information.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert in forensic and clinical pathology.
  • Maintain effective collaboration with FBI investigators, analysts, and leadership.
  • Ensure all services align with FBI mission objectives and contract requirements.
  • Comply with all FBI security, risk assessment, and information protection requirements.
  • Coordinate services through the designated Contracting Officer and COR.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent
  • Completion of:
  • Undergraduate degree
  • Medical school
  • Pathology residency (3–4 years)
  • Board Certification in Forensic Pathology
  • Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology
  • Completion of a Clinical Pathology or Forensic Pathology Fellowship
  • Minimum ten (10) years of professional experience in forensic pathology
  • Active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States
  • Ability to pass a limited background investigation
