Consultant Psychiatrist – Child & Adolescent | Flexible FTE
📍 Perth-based | Statewide Virtual Service

We’re partnering with a leading public health service to recruit an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join a specialist Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service delivering care across regional and remote Western Australia.

This is a unique opportunity to work within a statewide, virtual specialist model, supporting children, young people, and families while collaborating closely with regional teams on complex and high-impact cases.

Available opportunities

  • Consultant Psychiatrist – Sessional (0.4 FTE)
    (1 session = 4 hours)
  • Consultant Psychiatrist + Head of Department – 0.6 FTE (5-year term)
  • Flexible arrangements available: part-time, sessional or tailored FTE

About the service

This specialist hub provides advanced, virtual mental health care to children and young people aged 0–18 across regional WA. Working in partnership with local ICAMHS teams, the service focuses on:

  • Specialist psychiatric assessment and treatment
  • Consultation and shared care with regional clinicians
  • Clinical leadership and workforce capability building
  • Supporting culturally responsive, trauma-informed care models

The role

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will:

  • Deliver specialist assessment and treatment for children and adolescents
  • Provide expert consultation to GPs and multidisciplinary teams
  • Support coordinated care for complex and high-risk presentations
  • Contribute to service development, planning, and quality improvement
  • Play a key role in strengthening regional mental health services

Head of Department option (0.6 FTE):

  • Provide senior clinical leadership and governance
  • Support workforce development and education
  • Contribute to strategic direction of the statewide program

What’s on offer

  • Flexible work arrangements with strong work-life balance
  • Opportunity to work in an innovative, virtual care model
  • Meaningful impact across regional and remote communities
  • Leadership and teaching opportunities
  • Supportive, collaborative multidisciplinary environment

What we’re looking for

  • Eligibility for specialist registration with AHPRA
  • Fellowship of RANZCP (or equivalent)
  • Completion (or near completion) of Advanced Certificate in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Demonstrated experience in infant, child and adolescent mental health

Why this role stands out

This isn’t your typical metro-based psychiatry role. You’ll be part of a service that genuinely extends specialist care into communities that need it most, without the requirement to relocate regionally. The model allows you to combine clinical expertise with system-wide impact, while maintaining flexibility in how you work.
